Our Five Goals
Sharing Hope Through Testimony
The founder of the foundation, Francesco Salerno, regularly visits churches and institutions when his health allows to share his personal testimony. During these gatherings, he speaks about the extraordinary experience he went through when he was confronted with a life-threatening leukemia diagnosis.
Francesco openly shares the story of what he believes to be a miracle in his life. Through faith, prayer, and the support of others, he experienced a remarkable recovery that doctors had once considered unlikely. Although he remains incurably ill, new medical treatments that have recently become available for patients with the same form of leukemia have allowed him to regain strength and continue living a meaningful life.
Through his testimony, Francesco aims to give hope and encouragement to others. He speaks about the strength he has received through his faith in Jesus Christ and wants to inspire people around the world to find courage, faith, and perseverance even in the darkest circumstances.
Financial Support for Leukemia Patients
The Francesco Salerno Foundation provides practical and financial support to individuals living with leukemia.
One of the major challenges faced by many patients is the cost of traveling to specialized hospitals. In many cases, the hospitals that treat leukemia are located far from a patient’s home, which means frequent and often expensive travel.
Our foundation helps by contributing to:
- Travel expenses to and from hospitals
- Medication costs that are not fully covered by health insurance
- Additional financial needs related to treatment
Where necessary, we also provide support to the patient’s family. Even in countries where healthcare systems are generally well developed, certain essential costs are not always reimbursed. These financial pressures can add significant stress during an already difficult period, and our goal is to help reduce that burden.
Rest and Recovery for Patients and Families
Living with leukemia is not only physically demanding for the patient; it is also emotionally and physically exhausting for family members who often provide constant care and support.
Partners, parents, and children frequently stand beside their loved one day and night. This requires enormous emotional strength and can lead to exhaustion.
For this reason, the Francesco Salerno Foundation sometimes offers patients and their families the opportunity to spend a short period away from their daily environment in order to recover physically and mentally. This may include a long weekend or a mid-week stay at a campsite, a bed & breakfast, or a modest hotel.
The foundation has agreements with selected accommodations that offer these stays at significantly reduced prices. These moments of rest allow families to regain strength and restore emotional balance during a very demanding time.
In some cases, this can also be particularly valuable shortly before or after a medical procedure, when a calm environment away from home can help support recovery.
Information and Personal Guidance
Providing clear and reliable information about leukemia is another important objective of our foundation.
Many patients and families are confronted with a complex and unfamiliar medical reality. Understanding the disease, the available treatments, and the possible challenges ahead can help patients make informed decisions and feel more confident during their journey.
The Francesco Salerno Foundation provides information through several channels, including:
- Educational resources on our website
- Printed brochures and informational materials
- Personal visits and conversations with patients and families
In addition to practical information, we also offer emotional and spiritual support. Visiting patients in their homes or meeting with families allows us to listen, encourage, and provide guidance during difficult moments.
Supporting Medical Research and Innovation
The Francesco Salerno Foundation also collaborates with specialized hospitals, medical professionals, and organizations dedicated to leukemia research and treatment.
Where possible, the foundation may provide financial support for initiatives such as:
- Research into the different forms of leukemia
- Development of new medications and treatment strategies
- Medical programs that improve patient outcomes
Although leukemia is a life-threatening disease, it is relatively rare compared to many other illnesses. As a result, the development of new treatments sometimes progresses more slowly than in other medical fields.
By supporting research and innovation, the foundation hopes to contribute to the advancement of medical science and improve the future prospects for leukemia patients worldwide.
